#jemxadr> Hi Peter, how are you? I JUST got here! END
<Peter:#jemxadr> Hi Carol Anne, I'm fine. END
<Peter:#jemxadr> Except maybe for still having to update the QLA ADD and making slow progress ... EN
+D
*** allan <~allan@apollo.dsri.dk> joined channel #jemxadr
#jemxadr> Hi Allan! I'll go and see if NJW is here yet. END
<allan:#jemxadr> Hi END
#jemxadr> Are you at home Allan - I can't find you in your office!END
<allan:#jemxadr> As I said in an email to you earlier, I am home.
<allan:#jemxadr> And, I can not attend for more than another 10 minutes, I have an
<allan:#jemxadr> appointment with Malenes doctor - she needs to be examined. Therefore
<allan:#jemxadr> I suggest to start with item 3 and 5 on the agenda.
<allan:#jemxadr> We may continue Monday morning at 9, if we wish to have things
<Peter:#jemxadr> FIne with me: shoot away
<allan:#jemxadr> settled before Xmas. END
#jemxadr> Okay, fire away! END
<allan:#jemxadr> So we are only the three of us ? Anyway:
<allan:#jemxadr> Item 3: GANTT:
#jemxadr> Juhani sent an email: he's very busy. END
<allan:#jemxadr> As Peter has noticed, there was some misunderstandings about
<allan:#jemxadr> the due dates to ISDC.
<allan:#jemxadr> I think we now have a clear conception of the current
<allan:#jemxadr> expectations from the ISDC, and my suggestions made at the ISDC
<allan:#jemxadr> consortium meeting will thus apply. Therefore, we move
<allan:#jemxadr> JRefinedImage... to V3, and expect that Peter will be
<allan:#jemxadr> assisted to do some of his parts.
<allan:#jemxadr> If these assumptions come through, we can get around the due dates
<allan:#jemxadr> (barely, but thats fine).
*** huovelin <~huovelin@taurus.astro.helsinki.fi> joined channel #jemxadr
<allan:#jemxadr> Then this means we can sign the MOu, a draft of which has been circulated
<allan:#jemxadr> between a few of us. I am willing to accept the MOUdraft 1.2, if
<allan:#jemxadr> we change the wording in the lasst paragraph from:
<allan:#jemxadr> ... currently been set to ... TO
<allan:#jemxadr> ... currently been set to not earlier than ...
<allan:#jemxadr> The updated GANTT will be available, when I get a chance to change it :-) END
<Peter:#jemxadr> Ah, we're getting into wheeling & dealing now :-)
<huovelin:#jemxadr> Where can I see the MOU draft 1.2 ? END
<Peter:#jemxadr> But that's OK with me. It would still help though if you got around to mail us a co
+rrected copy later today. END
<allan:#jemxadr> We can forward a copy ASAP, but to inform you, it
<allan:#jemxadr> contains only a list of what we have already in the GANTT; and ends with
<Peter:#jemxadr> To Allan: please remove "draft" as well for the signed copy. END
<allan:#jemxadr> a statement, that we can meet the ISDC duedates for delivery of V1, V2, V3
<allan:#jemxadr> and then the due dates are listed. the change mentioned above was to ensure,
<allan:#jemxadr> that the ISDC doesn't change the due date towards now, if changes are to
<allan:#jemxadr> occur, they are expectd to be delays. Not that we can't deliver whaT we
<allan:#jemxadr> have when eventually ready :-) END
<allan:#jemxadr> OK, Peter .END
<huovelin:#jemxadr> :-() END
<allan:#jemxadr> So much for GANTT ? END
<huovelin:#jemxadr> OK END
<Peter:#jemxadr> OK
<allan:#jemxadr> Item 5: OSM:
<allan:#jemxadr> I have had a brief discussion with Niels before I went to the US, and
<allan:#jemxadr> he is now in Paris, so the issue is not solved.
#jemxadr> I'm sure we'll all work away like little beavers till it's done. But basically we seem to
+be quite well ahead comparedwith other parts of the INTEGRAL project, and that's what really matter
+s. END
<allan:#jemxadr> I also think, that the HW people need a bit more time to
<allan:#jemxadr> get their things together, before we will make final decisions there.
<allan:#jemxadr> Any lates date? (Except for this is a V1 issue, right?). END
#jemxadr> That's my feeling too, Allan. There's not much point running ahead of them, especially sin
+ce the Engineering model delivery has been put off till the new year. END
<Peter:#jemxadr> Well, we actually expect for OSM to evolve betweenearly 1999 and the launch.
<allan:#jemxadr> Fine, we will then come with a preliminary set before Jan 31, and expcet
<allan:#jemxadr> changes to be 'accepted' END
<Peter:#jemxadr> The main problem is that Reiner has only so much time (and his contract needs to be
+ prolonged which isn't 100% sure yet).
#jemxadr> Shall I put an action Item on Allan and Niels to make that list? END
<Peter:#jemxadr> So the later wishes come the simpler they should be. But Jan 31 is still quite earl
+y. END
<allan:#jemxadr> Yes. END
#jemxadr> How's about late February then? END
<allan:#jemxadr> I have to leave, 'see' you later! END
*** Signoff: allan ()
#jemxadr> I've put February on the AI. END
<Peter:#jemxadr> OK with me. END
#jemxadr> There's really not much else to discuss: Juhani's running with his tongue in his belt unti
+l Sami comes (is there a medical procedure for de-belting your tongue ;-)), and Stefan's in Austral
+ia, and Allan's being nursemaid.
#jemxadr> And I'm simply wallowing in Detailed Design. So how about a few little announcements, and
+then I leave everyone alone till the new year? END
<Peter:#jemxadr> OK. Maybe a few questions come up during your announcements.
<Peter:#jemxadr> END
#jemxadr> Announcement 1: Please send something, anything for this month's monthly report. `Pinning
+down a million niggly little details' will do so long as you can put a number on what fraction of t
+he niggly details you think you've covered in total
#jemxadr> END
#jemxadr> Any questions? `Nothing done', is also acceptable. END
<Peter:#jemxadr> Is it OK, if my input comes late on the 23rd?
<Peter:#jemxadr> END
#jemxadr> Yes that's fine, I'm working the three days between Christmas and New Year. END
<Peter:#jemxadr> Bad habit ... END
#jemxadr> Got to save holiday days for Easter and my son's birthday. END
<huovelin:#jemxadr> Merry Christmas from Sami. I'll be sending everything for this year ...
<huovelin:#jemxadr> next week (just by myself, since Sami is leaving to Lapland END
#jemxadr> Announcement 2: I've made a `Developer's Forum' homepage on the DSRI/Integral/doc webpage.
+ Let me know a URL on your machines where you want to set up your own developement/information/prot
+otyping page, and I'll put in the link. END
#jemxadr> That'll be fine Juhani. Getting Sami will be one of the major items in this month's report
+. END
<Peter:#jemxadr> OK. As soon as I have something, I'll tell you. END
#jemxadr> I'm putting all my question and answer correspondance with ISDC on this page, so that you
+don't all have to repeat my dumb questions. ISDC is going to rue the day they set up that help emai
+l address! END
#jemxadr> Any comments? END
<Peter:#jemxadr> Not really. Except maybe that its still better to answer 300 emails thant to try an
+d integrate 200 components written in incompatible fashion :-) END
#jemxadr> Next annouoncement (#3): On second thoughts, it seems like separate grey filter and instru
+ment mode history tables will be more useful than a joint table. Sorry, Peter, but I'm messing Step
+hane around a little here. END
<Peter:#jemxadr> Also, we might later steal your exchanges as the basis for our own Q+A list. END
<Peter:#jemxadr> Hang on, I'll see if he's in. END
#jemxadr> Don't worry about alerting him yet.....He'll be finding out soon enough from me! END
#jemxadr> Any comments, Juhani? END
<Peter:#jemxadr> Stephane isn't in his office right now. But I don't think, he'll fight for a joint
+table. For myself I prefer them separate. END
<huovelin:#jemxadr> No. It seems that you have been talking about some "insider's" business END
#jemxadr> Detailed Design is throwing up a whole load of stuff ;-) END
<huovelin:#jemxadr> :-) END
#jemxadr> Annouoncement #4: We had an AI about supplying corrections to the URD and SRD, based on ou
+r latest ADD, with a due date pretty soon. I propose that we each wait with these corrections until
+ we delivered the actual code for each application.
<huovelin:#jemxadr> About the tables - I'll think it over next week, and let you know then END
<Peter:#jemxadr> Fine with me - I was wondering already if I'd submit those on the 24th and 25th ...
+ END
<huovelin:#jemxadr> OK END
#jemxadr> That way we only do the corrections on URD and SRD ONCE (maybe twice in a very few cases).
+ So the due date on that action gets changed to the relevant V1, V2 and V3 dates. END
#jemxadr> Detailed Design again, showing me just how wrong the ADD was.......END
#jemxadr> And the SRD and URD! END
<Peter:#jemxadr> That's normal. The problem is that we (ISDC as well!) put off for to long the corre
+ctions to the first documents. END
<Peter:#jemxadr> That should have been "too long". END
#jemxadr> That's probably not such a sin Peter. Those corrections would probably be out of date by n
+ow anyway. END
<Peter:#jemxadr> Well, essentially this documents should be 'living', i.e. more or less continously
+updated. It would have avoided some confusion if this had happened. END
#jemxadr> Announcement #5: During the next couple of months in the Detailed Design we need to think
+what sort of routines in DAL3 would help us access JEM-X specific data structures: which sort of ac
+cesses do we perform time and again, which could be
#jemxadr> simple library routines for all of us? END
#jemxadr> Again, I think we have to wait for some substantial DD to occur before we can present our
+DAL3 wishes. END
<Peter:#jemxadr> Yes, absolutely. Some news from here: Stephane will probably try to design a routin
+e to read in event data.
<Peter:#jemxadr> This routine will be similar in the interface to the one provided for SPI.
#jemxadr> I'd like to put an AI on this one, just to say that we all should keep this in mind while
+designing/prototyping/coding. When would be a good due date for our DAL3 wishes Peter? END
<Peter:#jemxadr> Bot of you might have a look on what he's done there. END
#jemxadr> Frankly, there's only a couple of routines there for SPI at the moment. END
<Peter:#jemxadr> Due date: I do not think that we can have a single date. But let's say that we need
+ *some* wishes by end of January. END
#jemxadr> I'll put January on the AI. END
<Peter:#jemxadr> The whole problem is that Stephane needs input from the ITs and then has to check i
+f their wishes make good sense looking at the data structures. END
#jemxadr> Yes, I understand the problem. END
<Peter:#jemxadr> So the best way to proceed is to start with a few clear requests and then gradually
+ build up the library in step with the S/W development. END
#jemxadr> Sounds fine. END
#jemxadr> Announcement #6: I'd like to make another AI to say that we should all look the latest CTS
+ over. This will be version 2.2 and the non-draft will be out soon, I'll get the url from Don. The
+thing is, we have to check that our sytem's conform
#jemxadr> to their requirements, and be sure that there aren't any restrictions we feel we simply ca
+n't live by. So please look this document over as soon as possible. END
#jemxadr> Any comments, Juhani? END
#jemxadr> Announcement 7: Does Helsinki have any comments on the contents of -HRW and -CNV data stru
+ctures? Would you like some time to think about these things. I think is it mostly your components
+that use these things. END

#jemxadr> Okay, if no comments, any other business? We have our christmas lunch now. END
<Peter:#jemxadr> Please do enjoy it. I assume we'll 'talk' before Christmas by email or so. END
#jemxadr> If there's no other business, I officially declare the meeting closed and MERRY CHRISTMAS
+TO BOTH OF YOU !!!!!!! END
<Peter:#jemxadr> Thanks! To you as well! END
