Gain Notes for Revolution 354

A shortened revolution due to heavy space weather. Brief autonomous switch off
causes the expected gain increase and decay on re-activation. Gain smoothing
however is fine, and all data from this revolution can be used.

Xe analysis: though there is a very steep increase in solar background activity
towards the end of the data-taking period in this revolution, the drop in Xe
corrected energy is surprisingly moderate. This is clearly because the background
increase was also strong enough to affect the calibration spectra and hence
offset the worst of the `hidden' gain suppression. This means that except for
the first few science windows (as usual), the Xe line falls within reasonable
limits and all the science data can be used. The instruments were switched off
prematurely in this revolution due to the high background and remained off
for the next two revolutions. 

The only time period where the Xe line was outside
the 29-30 keV range was at the very beginning of the revolution just after
switch on. Users should be cautious when using these first science windows in a
revolution for critical spectral analyses.
