JEM-X1 Orbit 0171

From revolution 171 onwards, JEM-X1 was operated in Data Taking mode during science observations, with a TM allocation of 8 packets/cycle, while JEM-X2 was dormant with a TM allocation of 1 packet/cycle.

JEM-X1 made an autonomous transitions to Safe mode, triggered by the unit’s S/W Ratemeter, about 5 hours before it was planned to be put in Safe mode by the Timeline before radiation belt entry of revolution 171. Once the background radiation levels had returned stably within the Safe thresholds for JEM-X1, a recovery was attempted. However, this could not be completed due to a lack of stable TM and TC from the ground station and JEM-X1 remained in Safe mode for the rest of this revolution.
